Tom : 62 Moons : Warrior : Heterosexual
Appearance: Portly dark brown tom with hetrochromatic blue/amber eyes.
Muddytoad was given the first half of his name for the dark brown coloring of his pelt; which betrays no pattern in shadowy light, but certainly has a faint striping tabby pattern when looked at out of the shadows. His coat is neither too long or too short; it is mid-length and somewhat spiky, occasionally matted in areas along his belly due to a penchant to 'forget' about personal hygiene. As he grew, his one eye remained in it's bright babyish hue while the other turned a warm amber; giving him a slightly lopsided appearance.
The second - his warrior suffix - was given to him by his stockier than normal appearance. He has a short, compact body - more rounded than lean. While no true warrior would ever allow themselves to become fat, Muddytoad is certainly around the bulkier body types; but doesn't look intimidatingly large. When sitting, he almost appears hunched in on himself; like a large toad blinking wetly from a lilypad. His whiskers are short, cropped nearly, and set against a slightly pushed in face; no sharp edges on this tom.
✿
Personality:
{briefly; adaptable, clever, unhurried, immoral, manipulative, roguish}
Muddytoad is a cat of good humor, but of low morals. He's a bit of a scoundrel - known to have broken many a heart and done a few disputably despicable things in the name of Gladeclan. Cheating, lying, buggery - they are all fine so long as they are done in the name of protecting Gladeclan and making it stronger. The only limits he draws in in the needless drawing of blood; he will not shy away from a battle when it is ultimately necessary, but will do everything within his power to keep his claws out of it for as long as possible.
To cats around his own age, particularly among other clans, he is known as a tom who laughs to quickly, and would likely have sold his own mother in order to get ahead. But withing Gladeclan, he tries his best to make younger cats respect him. While other his age may roll their eyes and scoff at his ploys, Muddytoad has always had a good rapport with the younger crowd; mostly because he offers the she-cats pretty words and the toms someone to comrade with. His former apprentice learned a lot, but on the discipline side got away with murder; so Muddytoad is not the best of role models for anyone outside of his own clanmates, who admire a witty retort just as much as prowess and discipline in battle.
He has a slightly raspy voice, what could be considered a 'smoker's voice' - and his yellowed teeth are always born in a grin. If there's one thing you cannot falt him for, it is good humor; there's always something he can laugh at, including himself. His personal thought is you shouldn't take life too serious anyways; as no one is going to make it out alive.
Deep (deep) down in his heart, he does genuinely care for the future generations of Gladeclan - but it is masked often in manipulating them into doing his bidding. His favorite apprentices knew to always offer him a bit of their catches first; and it is due to this penchant for snagging a little bit of extra food has given him his slightly portlier appearance. He would never admit to slowing down, but he is getting slowly on in his years.
✿
History:
Muddytoad is Gladeclan born and bred - which is surprising to most, seeing as his nature seems to be characteristically roguish. One who didn't truly live with him could easily assume that he was out for his own survival above all else; but in truth, he was a bit spoiled. His mother, Fennelseed, had lost a litter the previous greenleaf - so Muddykit, a solitary tom born to her on the very threshold of Newleaf, was quite spoiled.
As an apprentice, he would often skip his harder duties and quickly became the the bane of his mentor - who happened to be the clan's deputy at that time. At least, his second one was. His first mentor actually confessed to being unable to deal with his antics, and he was given to the harsher she-cat to try and knock some sense into him. It did not, until the threat of his ceremony being delayed, and feigning contriteness, Muddytoad seemed to buckle down for the first time in his life.By the time he was made a warrior, perhaps in order to keep him from turning back to his old ways, he was given an apprentice almost immediately; which resulted in Muddytoad teaching the she-cat named Yellowpaw all his own tips and tricks...for better or worse, one is hard to tell.
When it became clear that the former clan lands were unsafe, some thought that Muddytoad would have begged off on travelling with them; but in truth, for the first time the tom seemed to buckle down and do his best to push forward. He showed a hidden fortitude on that journey that has seemed to have fled now they had settled in their new home; but this is not something his clanmates are likely to forget about anytime soon.
