The day had been long and hard, taking a toll on Leopardpaw’s mood. Of course, he didn’t seem to be as tired as Butterflypaw. She always seemed to be tired lately, snappish sometimes too. He did his best to be cheery with her, which seemed to work well enough for the both of their moods. Leopardpaw was glad his sister was working so hard, but he was afraid she was overworking herself. Is Tinderstar making her do that much? Such a tough mentor! Leopardpaw thought with a shudder. At least they were slowly getting closer to being warriors.
Leopardpaw circled his nest a few times before finally settling, a sigh rumbling in his throat. ALmost at once, the spotted tom fell into a deep sleep. However, Leopardpaw woke with a shudder. Blinking his eyes open with irritation, he gasped. He wasn’t in the apprentice den anymore, no, this time he was crouched in a shady forest that reeked of blood and death. Despite the eeriness, Leopardpaw had to admit that it was kinda well...cool.
Standing slowly on shaky legs, Leopardpaw lifted his head and called out strongly. “Is anyone there?”
A shining cat sparkled before his eyes-spotted,brown- but the cat was chased quickly away by another cat. This cat was huge! Mane-like fur around the neck, monstrous paws, scars littered all over their grey tabby pelt. Leopardpaw blinked in surprise as the huge cat faced him, gaping at the huge x-shaped scar across her face. After the cat shook her pelt out, she gazed evenly at him, amber eyes glowing. She has the same color eyes as me! Leopardpaw noticed, surprise hitting him.
The she-cat drew closer, dipping her head to the spotted tom. “Greetings, Leopardpaw,” She meowed in a rumbly voice that shook Leopardpaws chest. “My name is Weepingdove.”
Weepingdove. The name sounded odd but he was sure it was the name of a warrior. “Where am i?” He asked, taking another quick glance around.
“A place only the chosen can come,” Weepingdove answered simply, eyes gleaming. “Living cats can only be called here. You cannot walk this place in a simple dream. This is real. You have been chosen for a very special opportunity.”
A special opportunity? Leopardpaw blinked. “What’s the opportunity?”
“I am giving you the chance to become a better warrior,” She said slyly, circling the apprentice. Malice hid deep in her eyes. “A chance to prove you do not hold the cowardice in your heart that your parents did. A chance to train yourself into someone worthy of a warriors name.”
Leopardpaw felt excitement run through his paws. Has StarClan brought me a cat to train under, a cat to make me special? Leopardpaw stared at Weepingdove, his heart racing with enthusiasm. “So, you chose me then? You thought i was worthy?”
“Indeed i did,” Weepingdove said, smiling a yellowed smile. “Enough questions. Will you train under me? Do you promise to be loyal to me and to listen to my orders? You can tell no one about these meetings. Understood?”
“Yes,” Leopardpaw meowed, breathless. “I promise. And I understand.”
