Sleep had seemed to evade Leopardpaw for a good amount of the night, eyes wide open until moonhigh showed brightly over GladeClan's camp. Now, his head rested on his paws staring out past the sleeping lumps of his littermates. The camp was quiet and peaceful, only filled with the snores of the warriors and his siblings. And yet, despite the peace, Leopardpaw couldn't sleep. His mind wandered to subjects normal for this hour; mainly resting on the subject of his parents departure from GladeClan.
Pain still floated in his heart from the horrible instance, the thought of his parents now made him feel sick. He couldn't think of one real reason they left besides being cowardly. A slight growl rumbled in his throat, eyes gleaming with anger. Sighing, Leopardpaw close dhis eyes and allowed himself to fall slowly asleep.
His eyes opened once more but this time he awoke in a starlit field, surrounded by huge towering trees and long blades of grass. He blinked slowly, gazing around. Weird dream. He thought, padding in slow circles and sniffing each and every tree. Surprise hit him as he could smell prey scent- lots of it. He hadn't smelled this scent for moons! Was this what the forest had smelled like before the drought hit? He couldn't believe how much scent there was. However, his exploration was cut short when he heard loud rustling behind him. A growl rumbled in his throat and he turned around, fur spiking with agression.
"There's no need to be so defensive," A low, kind voice rumbled. Emerging from the grass stood a spotted brown tom with stunning blue eyes. Next to him stood an elegant, long-haired silver tabby she-cat. A lump formed in Leopardpaws throat. "It's just us."
"O-Orchidthroat," Leopardpaw choked out, eyes clouding as he gazed at his mother. "Cougarstorm... How am i seeing you? Aren't you two still alive?" He asked, taking a step backwards in fear, How could this be happening?
"We aren't alive," Orchidthroat meowed in her usual small voice, eyes filled with sorrow. "Twolegs captured us. They were so mean. They hurt us, poisoned us, did so many horrible things until we could no longer fight back."
"We've come to you. We have seen your distress, worse than Lynxpaw's. We came to give you the closure you need, Leopardpaw." Cougarstorm meowed slowly, staring at him with starry blue eyes.
Anger suddenly flooded through Leopardpaw, a snarl flashing across his muzzle. "Then tell me why you left," He meowed, his voice trembling with anger. He slid his claws out. "Tell me why you left all of us with so much pain! Tell me why you left us, alone, to care for ourselves!"
Cougarstorm stared sadly at his son, starry form padding closer to him. "Our actions were impulsive and stupid," He meowed with a sigh, eyes gleaming with sadness. "We left on a whim, under the belief that StarClan needed cats to explore the unknown. We recieved an odd dream before your birth but... we were wrong. We made a mistake and that mistake ended in our demise. It took us many long moons to get to StarClan and they only just accepted us. We will relive our mistake for lifetimes upon lifetimes."
Orchidthroat nodded. "We have missed all of you very much," She whispered with pain in her voice, eyes gleaming with emotion. "I have watched you since you were young, from the stars. Leopardpaw, you have a choice ahead of you. A choice to be made in the very near future. Please, make good decisions."
Confusion clouded Leopardpaws mind. "A choice? What do you mean?"
But before his questions could be answered, Cougarstorm and Orchidthroat whispered a quick 'we love you' before the dream faded and he woke with a start. A choice to be made? That doesn't make any sense.
