To start off... What is LGBT+?
This is a community most widely known by its first four letters: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender. However, this community has a lot more to it than those first four. Asexual/romantic, Pansexual, Demisexual/romantic, Nonbinary, & other GNC identities are all examples of the spectrum this community has. Here on FAD, we are open to the creation of LGBT+ cats of all identities.
Pronouns and The Sorts:
Here on FAD we tend to use three sets of pronouns: he/him, she/her & they/them. However, we also accept combined usage like he/they and she/they. This is to keep things easy for all users as they can RP smoothly and easily. We accept the usage of changing/fluid pronouns in the case of genderfluid or genderqueer characters. All we ask is that you include an ooc message either at the top or bottom of your RP posts letting the users you roleplay with know which pronouns your character is going by then!
We also accept the creation of he/him lesbians & nonbinary lesbians
What are he/him lesbians and nonbinary lesbians?
Strap in for a bit of a lesson! It's a common occurence to hear gay men referring to eachother as she, her, and other feminine-aligned words. Many gay men will also use she/her as their preferred pronouns. Most people, in fact, don't even bat an eyelash at it! It's not unusual, nor is it wrong. Usage of pronouns that don't reflect ones gender identity has been common practice for decades. The same applies for many lesbians and nonbinary folk. For some odd reason, in the recent past, this has become a hot debate despite its historical roots.
In the case of he/him lesbians & nonbinary lesbians, it is a common experience that many women feel where they are disconnected from womanhood due to stereotypical perception of womanhood and/or the way womanhood is defined by relationships and attraction to men. It's not uncommon to see butch lesbians using he/him pronouns both for personal comfort, or for safety. Folk who are neurodivergent and/or have undergone trauma revolving around femininity may also use he/him pronouns to feel secure.
Nonbinary folk can also be semi-aligned or not at all, some prefer using they/them, some they/he, some they/she- this does not take away that they are a spectrum and can lean towards masculinity, femininity, or be non-aligned. Nonbinary lesbians tend to call themselves lesbians as well due to the lack of a word to express their attraction to women. Some people also use they/them due to the same reasons as he/him lesbians do.
This topic is not something one must understand, but it is one that must be respected. It is also a historical phenomenon. A good book that goes into depth on GNC identities & pronouns, if you would like to read it, is Stone Butch Blues.
Transgender Cats & Kittens
Transgender cats are also 100% accepted! Your cat may transition at any time and for any reason. Be it dysphoria, gender non-conformity, disconnection to their birth gender, etc. We do not encourage heavy dysphoria to be written in-RP, as it may make our trans roleplayers feel uncomfortable. If for any reason you feel the need to include this aspect into your roleplays or stories, please provide a proper trigger warning both at the top and bottom of your roleplay post as well as (if you are the one making the thread) including it in the thread description. This is to ensure comfort in all of our players!
Transgender cats are also welcome to have kits, though this is up to their roleplayers. This is an event that also occurs in the real world, and so long as both the roleplayers & characters are comfortable and agree to it, there is no issue. AFAB cats may bear kits & AMAB cats may sire kits no matter their current gender idenity, and neither of these options will ever require an item.
If a roleplayer wishes, and ONLY if they wish, a cats assigned at birth sex can be included in the listings. Some users may prefer this, as it lets other users know quickly that their cat is trans. It will be formatted as either AFAB or AMAB. Roleplayers of nonbinary and GNC cats do not have to provide their cats' assigned gender if they do not wish.
examples:
Furnose - A ginger tabby AFAB tom with green eyes
Petalshine - A black and white patched AMAB she-cat with one blue eye and one yellow eye
LGBT Dont's ?
There is only 1 thing we ask you NOT to do:
Do NOT write LGBTphobia as a trait of your character. We do not accept homophobia whatsoever from ANY of our members. Reflection of these behaviors will result in a permanent ban. LGBT+ people undergo enough suffering through their day to day lives- roleplay is often an escape. Having characters like so in the past/backstory of an LGBT+ character is fine, so long as proper TWs are put into place and these characters are never picked up by an active roleplayer. However, roleplaying an active character with those -phobias is not permitted. Using slurs will result in an immediate, permanent ban. Reclaimed slurs will vary on a case to case basis. However, using any word in a derogatory fashion towards our LGBT members & cats will result in a non-negotiable, permanent ban.
