Rustswirl padded into a dark trailer park, constantly swiveling her ears to catch each little murmur or creaking of floorboards inside. She knew very well that seh was not meant to e here, and that Clan cats were advised to stay far from twoleg dwellings, but Rustswirl was hardly ever one to do what was advised of her. And, besides, seh had no real desire to be a kittypet. She was just, as always, curious. She had come here because she was following a strange tomcat, who had beckoned to her from across the river. Althogh she had done her best to keep up with him, he had the advantage of knwing his surroundings, not to mention the fact that seh had been delayed in having to swim across the stream to reach him. And now, she felt totally lost. If only she had gotten a good sniff of him, seh could have tried to follow his scent. But, as it was, she could not tell a cat scent from that of a leftover hotdog.
“Hey there pretty lady.”
Rustswirl’s eyes shot up, immedietly landing on the siloquette of the very tom she had been tracking. He stared down at her from his place atop a trailer roof, smiling cheekily.
“Glad to see you could make it.”
Rustswirl watched him curiously as he padded to the edge of the roof, and, leaping from ledge to ledge, made his way to the ground, where he stopped just a whsker-length away from her. Now that he was so close, Rustswirl could see each little wrinkle on his face.
“Ya know,” the tomcat mentioned, sitting back on his hairless haunches, “I think I’ve seen you before, down on the beach. Are you that Clan cat who gets her claws done by Clara?”
Rustswirl tilted her head. “Clara? Is that her name? I don’t really understand twoleg speak.”
As she spoke, she flexed her claws, allowing the bright pink and blue colors to shine under the light of the full moon. She was supposed to have gone to the gathering tonight, had she not been distracted by the sight of the naked creature in front of her. “By the way, are you familiar with a pair of she-cats called Scorpionclaw and Swiftleap? I think they mentioned you.”
Mr. Nakey nodded enthusiastically, showing a toothy grin. “Yeah! I gave them directions a few days ago! Glad to see they got home!” The tomcat quickly added another thought. “Oh, by the way, they call me Mr. Nakey. Well, Susan does, others call me Rooster, or Wrinkles..or..”
The hairless tomcat went on, parroting off his long list of monikers. Some of them, Rustswirl though, almost sounded like clan named. There is no way this thing used to be a clan cat…
