Frequently Asked Questions
Here on FAD we get a lot of the same questions! Here's where you can go if one of these questions is itching at your mind. If the answer to your question is not here, then feel free to notify us in the help channel of our discord server!
Do I have to join the RP as a kit? What does the 'kit' rank on the forum and discord mean?
You don't have to start as a kit! The ranks on the forums are entirely unrelated to your ranks in the roleplay. Instead they act as a fun little gimmick to show other users how active you have been on our forum! You will go from kit to apprentice, apprentice to warrior, etc. as time goes on and you participate in more threads. Whenever you rank up you will earn additional acorns at the end of the bi-weekly period!
How many characters can I have before purchasing new items?
Your character limit maxes out at FOUR characters before having to purchase the 5-10 character slot item with every additional character added to the roleplay. After you reach your 10th character, you will have to purchase the 10-15 item for every additional character up to your 15th. After that you've reached the forum's max amount.
What are acorns and how do they work?
Acorns are FAD's on-site currency! You can earn them in various ways and they are mainly used to purchase items from our site shop. They are not exchangeable for real life currency and should NOT be. Any user caught selling acorns for real money/trying to purchase will be banned. For further information regarding them and how to use them, refer to our Acorns and On-site Currency guide!
What counts as a disability and what counts as a mutation?
Disability items are required for any disability that causes day-to-day tasks to be harder and directly impacted. A minor disability would be something like a blinded eye, clubbed paw, a docked tail, etc. These disabilities will make the daily tasks of a warrior more difficult in comparison to their clanmates. Disabilities earned in-RP do not require the purchase of a disability item. On the other hand, a mutation(minor) is mostly for aesthetic purposes and gives the cat no positive or negative effects. These are traits that your cats are BORN WITH. Folded ears, kinked tails, extra toes, heterochromia, long fangs, etc. all count as minor mutations for aesthetic purposes.
Can my cat have this design? Or this marking?
Here at FAD we like to stick closer to realism in our cats for the sake of the folks behind kit rolls and breeding, as they handle them with actual genetic strings! Neon colors and such are not permitted because of this, the only exception being unique eye colors with a purchased item from our site shop. Cats with wacky stripes and/or bangs and such in their reference sheets are 100% okay, so long as these features are not hinted at within the RP or within their physical appearance paragraph. Cats that described as tabbies will be seen as a basic tabby in-rp. If you DO want unique stripes and patterns you can purchase the Rare Pelt Markings item. Wild features items are required for patterns that mimic big cats or cats like bengals.
What character bans are there right now?
Before you make your character, it's wise to check our Character Creation Rules. These change frequently as characters die, are added, and the server's inactive roleplayers are swept. Characters that reflect a current ban will be denied. You must wait before your character is approved and added to a roster before you can begin roleplaying.
I'm trying to upload my icon and it's small! Help!!!
Proboards has an unfortunate bug where if you pick the upload option for your icon, it'll wind up teensy tiny and not big at all. In order to get a properly sized icon, upload the image to an image hosting website like imgur or use the discord's image link & link the image instead. This should make it nice and properly sized
I don't know how to navigate the forum. Help!
While we can direct you to someone through the forum, it's greatly preferred that you join our discord server for guaranteed access to a forum mentor that can help you with the ropes. To see who our forum mentors are, refer to this post here! In our discord server pinging the role @helpers will notify them that you need help!
I want my character to have family! How do I enter another character's family/history?
Keep an eye on our Adoptions Board! Here users will put up characters, litters & family members up for adoption so you can enter the RP with other users ready to interact with you. Alternatively, on our discord server, the neutral-grounds channel is wonderful for plotting and planning out interactions between characters, backstory, and other tidbits you want in your character's BG. It's also wonderful to get non-NPC mentors, parents, etc. so you can interact better!
Can I be a medicine cat/leader/deputy?
Right of the bat... the short answer is no. But it's a touch more complicated! Leaders, deputies, and medicine cats tend to come and go in RP as death and inactivity whisks our favorite cats and roleplayers away. However, when a rank is open, it is NEVER a first come, first serve type of thing. These HRs are decided through a lengthy application process whenever a slot is open and can't be filled by a successor, (e.x: Basilcreek of Oakclan dies. Brackenfern will simply take over MC position, & it is up to their RPer to decide when to take an apprentice) For example, if both medicine cats are killed or made inactive, an HR application will open for the medicine cat position. These applications are when you can shoot your shot and attempt to acquire an HR.
How does roleplaying work? How do I make a thread? And Reply? Does it notify the person I'm roleplaying with?
Roleplaying on our forum is fairly easy. After your character is accepted, you are welcome to RP them within the correct boards for their clans (unless they are trespassing, of course) It's as simple as heading to the appropriate board and creating a thread under it! Replying works the same way via the reply button on the thread. Users who have participated in the thread will receive an on-site notification when the thread has new posts. But we prefer that you also ping them in the tagging section of our discord server for ease of communication.
