Brackenfern

Tom : 54 moons : Warrior : Straight
Appearance: Golden tabby tom with green eyes and white paws.
Brackenfern is an average-sized tom with short golden tabby fur and a lighter belly. He stands no taller than most cats, and is on the slimmer side of the muscle chart. He has bright green eyes and a fluffy tail. He only has 3 legs due to losing one in a fox trap when twolegs began destroying the territory.
✿
Personality:
{briefly; Patient, Gentle, Forgetful}
Positive Traits:
- Patient: It doesn't matter if someone has one question or a hundred, Brackenfern will sit and listen to them all and answer as best as he can. It is uncommon for someone to test his patience.
- Gentle: He never likes to harm others, especially his Clanmates. Because of this it is known that he has a gentle touch. Moreso than this, his personality is gentle as well. He would rather sit someone down to talk about what's bothering them than brushing away concerns.
- Calm: When someone needs an ear to listen, Brackenfern is the tom they need.
- Playful: Remnants of his wild kithood and apprenticeship days still live in him. To those he is close to, he is playful and may harmlessly tease them. If he's feeling extremely kittish he may even play a small prank.
Neutral Traits:
- Deep Thinker: When something stumps him, the tom will enter a meditative state where he thinks about the problem and how to solve it. He can zone out for anywhere between a minute and ten minutes; sometimes even longer than that.
- Empathetic: He cares deeply for his Clanmates. This is a positive trait to have. But sometimes he cares about others too much, which sends him into a spiral of emotions. When a Clanmate is struggling with something, he will feel obligated to help; and when he can't help he 'll feel so guilty that it will affect his work.
Negative Traits:
- Hides negative emotions: This tom rarely gets angry. Outwardly, that is. Instead, he holds in his anger and doesn't let it show to others. This may cause his anger to boil over at times, leading to periods of time where he is exceedingly angry.
- Courteous: He is polite to the point where others can take advantage of him. If someone asks for his help, he will drop everything and rush to help them, even if he should be doing something else and the cat doesn't really need his help. He can never say No.
- Forgetful: Paying attention had always been a weak point for him, ever since he was a kit. He needs to keep a list of whatever he's supposed to do, otherwise he forgets.

History:
Kithood:
As a kit, Brackenfern was wild and rambunctious, often getting into trouble. His parents Fireflower and Mossfang could never keep him under control, and were at a loss of what to do. It wasn't until his younger brother Redkit came along that he started mellowing out a little; he now had someone else to play with instead of being the only kit. Redkit was more careful and cautious than Brackenkit, but the duo still had their fair share of mischief - mostly on Brackenkit's end.
Apprenticeship:
During his apprenticeship, Brackenpaw grew from wild to just playful. He still had trouble paying attention, and his brother had to often remind him what was happening to keep him on track. When he was 8 moons, he and his brother were sent on a hunting assessment to test how their skills had grown. They were instructed to stay away from the river, as cats have fallen in and had died by drowning. Not paying attention, Brackenpaw strode off to hunt. Having caught a good amount of prey, he thought he could relax and mess around for a bit before heading back to his mentor. Redpaw headed over to him, and wanting to impress his brother, Brackenpaw attempted to jump to the large stone in the middle of the river. He landed on it successfully, but his paws slipped on the wet surface of the stone, sending him sliding into the water.
Redpaw ran along the riverbank, managing to grab him by the scruff and hauled him back onto solid ground. Unfortunately, Redpaw slipped himself and Brackenpaw watched in terror as his brother fell into the river. Their mentors hurried to save the apprentice, but in the end it was too late, and Redpaw died.
Grief-stricken by his brother's loss, Brackenpaw vowed to become better than he was. And in the coming moons, he did just that. He buckled down and dove headfirst into his training. His joking and mischievous demeanor transformed into a more thoughtful and calm one. He no longer thought about how funny his next prank would be; now he thought about how he can help his Clanmates. He wasn't able to help his brother, but he could help others that needed him. When he became a warrior, his name became Brackenfern due to his complete attitude turnaround, and his caring nature.
Warriorhood:
When he was 30 moons old, the territories were beginning to be destroyed. Twolegs were expanding onto Clan territory, monsters tearing up the ground and tearing down trees and plants alike. Sickness and disease began to spread, and cats were beginning to die left and right. One such danger was twoleg traps, meant to capture or kill those that were unlucky enough to be ensnared by them. On one such occasion, during a routine border patrol, Brackenfern stepped on a spot and a fox trap clamped down on his leg, severing it completely. A twoleg had placed it down for any foxes that might be roaming the area, hiding it by placing leaves over it.
It took a full moon for Brackenfern to recover enough to begin walking around. While he was in the medicine den, he grew an interest in herbs and how they worked. While working on exercises to strengthen his remaining three legs and help regain his balance, he would watch the medicine cat work, and ask questions.
When he was released from the medicine den, he worked to regain what he had lost. He had to learn how to balance on three legs, and although hunting is more difficult for him now, he can still manage to do so. He used his tail more for balance, and shifted his weight to his remaining three paws. He refused to let the loss of his leg stop him from what he wanted to do. He learned, he adapted, and he continued to help his Clan to the best of his ability. His interest in medicine cat duties never waned, however, and when he wasn't busy with warrior duties, he was asking the medicine cat questions and learning in that area as well.
Nine moons later, the Clans left the territories. It was no longer safe for them to survive, and they were better off leaving to find a new home. His parents died during the journey there. Now that they have found a new home, Brackenfang hopes to live the rest of the life with his Clan, helping those he can.
