Both Mistclan and Oakclan believe in one thing. “The Strength of the Clan is the Strength of the Individuals.” However, Oakclan and Mistclan have very different ideas on how precisely this must be achieved. Oakclan believes that the bonds of the group must be strengthened in order for the individuals to thrive. Mistclan, on the other hand, focuses more on strengthening the individual and allowing them to achieve their best potential independently. This is most obviously seen in the fact that new Mistclan warriors are sent on challenges, Oakclan warriors partake in clan wide bonding rituals.
Truthfully, both of the clans are trying to achieve the very same means, but they do not always see it that way. Ex,
Chickenwing of Mistclan is not a normal warrior, having a furless body and legs only as long as a kit’s. However, he serves his clan to the best of his personal abilities, and finds many other ways to prove himself. This makes him very valuable in the eyes of Mistclan. However, prom the perspective of cats in Oakclan, Chickenwing is being forced to fend for himself as he is not held up by his stronger clanmates.
Over in Mistclan, there is a warrior in a similar situation to Chickenwing’s. Crabsnap does not share his lack of fur, but she too is equipped with short legs, as well as abnormally long fangs which protrude from her mouth and cause her to speak with a slight lisp. Despite these setbacks, she is able to thrive in Oakclan because of other clanmates giving her additional support. Mistclan cats looking at her, however, believe that she may be treated unfairly because she is expected to keep up with something that was not built for her.
Both Clans have fogged, although not entirely incorrect, visions of how the other functions. But, at the end of the day, it is these subtle differences that give the clans their deep cultures.
