Stories of the Founders.
Everything must begin somewhere. According to legend, this is how the clans earned their names, and found their beginnings.
The Tale of Vale the Cunning
Long ago, there was a wandering Molly by the name of Vale. No cat knows where she really came from, and some speculate that she simply appeared from the sands, already knowing how to survive the harsh deserts. Others claim that she was once taught by Jackalopes, which would explain her penchant for cunning and trickery. But regardless of Vale's personal origins, she is highly regarded as the first leader of the desert clan. Legend has it that she took in those who were cast off by other clans, and taught them the values of working together and using the desert to their advantage. But, just as mysteriously as Vale appeared, one day she vanished, disappearing into a sandstorm. After that, she was never seen again. And yet, there are those who believe that she still wanders the desert, guiding the lost, and aiding those who do not know where they belong.
The Legend of Peak the Strong
Although PeakClan is newer than all the other clans, this has not stopped them from revering a legendary origin. Peak was the youngest of all of the clan founders, but like her clan, she proved to be stronger than any cat knew. Some cats whispered that she may even have been the descendent of the legendary lion who sleeps beneath the mountain. However, when confronted about this, legend says that Peak would only laugh, and say that she did not need a lion's genes to be strong. Although she was highly sought after, being just as beautiful as she was strong, Peak never took a mate of her own. Many cats tried to win her favor, but none were able to pass her challenge of besting her in a wrestling match. She would later give her life for her clan, killed in an avalanche whilst protecting another she-cat's kits. Because of this, she is revered as a protector of the young, as well as queens who have trouble in kitting. Some say that kits who are lost on the mountain are brought to PeakClan's borders, having been guided by the spirit of the legendary she-cat.
The Story of Glade, the Kittypet who Conquered the Forest
Unlike the other clans, GladeClan believes that they do have some true understanding of their founder's origins. Glade was born as a kitty pet, and for most of his life, he had little problem living a soft life. It is safe to say that the tom was actually happy where he was. However, that all changed when his two legs swerved to avoid a drunk driver, and crashed their car into the forest. A screaming, flashing monster came, and two legs in strange pelts pulled Glade's two legs out of the broken vehicle, but left behind the terrified tomcat. For days, the tomcat wandered the forest, unable to find his two legs. Although Glade had never been in the wild before, and had not been born with the skills to survive, StarClan smiled upon the tomcat, protecting him as he found his way in the forest. Slowly, he learned all he needed to survive, so much so that when his future clanmates found him, he was wrapped in ivy, and some say he could even chatter at the squirrels until they lay themselves before him.
Glade would later tell his classmates of the strange encounter he had during the time in which he was wandering. Lost and alone in the woods, Glade had all but completely given up any hope that he would ever find his way home. But then, a strange wind appeared before him, picking up a pile of leaves, and swirling them wildly. The wind practically deafened him with its yowl. And yet, the grass below his paws seemed undisturbed, and the trees did not sway. The leaves formed into the shape of a pale, ethereal she-cat whose eyes were as bright as the stars. She spoke to him sweetly, telling him that she had deemed him worthy to learn the secrets of the forest. She touched her nose to his forehead, and suddenly, the world seemed to yield to him. He no longer felt weak and hungry. It was as if the strange she-cat had breathed new life into him when she touched his head. Many say that this was the first instance of a leader receiving their lives.
The Ballad of Shell the Courageous
Shell was a large, impressive she-cat, remembered for her bright ginger fur and her raucous laughter, which is said to have sounded like the call of a gull. Although she is said to have been one of the longest lived of all of the clan founders, little seems to be known about her personal life, or even what she did. Legend has it that one day, she swam out in the sea to touch a floating monster, and simply never returned. Some say that she could still exist, though it is unlikely, as this all happened moons upon moons ago.
